The Margazhi Music Festival (Estb. 1928) takes place in its namesake month of the tamil calendar. Over a thousand concerts (dance, instruments, theatre) take place in various sabhas or halls across the city over a period of 9 weeks.

The artists, be it for Carnatic music, Veena or dance, go through years of rigorous training. They often start classes as children and continue to learn, have concerts & practice every day their entire lives. The art is a part of their everyday.
'Kutcheries', or concerts, aside, food is such a big part of the margazhi festival. Each Sabha will have an official caterer for the season. Ones who excel in classic Tamil cuisine and puts out plate after plate of tiffin snacks, savouries & sweets during the hours of the concerts. Each caterer will also have their signature blend of Filter Coffee, hundreds of cups of which are served to guests everyday.
